Winter On The East End Explored In New Solo Photography Exhibition

The Face Of Winter

The Face Of Winter

Winter Scenes, a solo East End Arts exhibition featuring the exceptional photography of Paul Dempsey, will debut at the Riverhead Town Hall Gallery on Friday, December 7.

“The photographs in this show are my interpretation of winter on the East End,” Dempsey, a computer programmer and webmaster who resides in Southampton, explained. “They are black and white and printed on metal, a combination that transcends the natural minimalism of a winter scenery.”

The fine art photographer’s latest focus is abstract, macro documentations of nature highlighted by elements such as ice, snow, sand, and sky. Dempsey’s series was inspired by author Kurt Vonnegut. The “digital manipulator” often takes seemingly ordinary elements from daily life and captures them in a way that bolsters the subject’s magnificence.

Dempsey, who serves as Southampton Artists Association Vice President, has been showcased locally at Ashawagh Hall, Southampton Cultural Center, Water Mill Museum, East End Arts, Southold Historical Museum, Remsenburg Academy, Quogue Library, and Guild Hall. He was also exhibited this year at Art Basel in Miami.

Winter Scenes will remain on display through March 1, 2019. An artist reception will be held on Tuesday, December 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission to the gathering is free and the event is open to the public.
