Katherine Milliken is a professional artist and highly experienced educator.  She specializes in painting from nature, deriving inspiration from natural, organic forms in our environment.  This subject matter comes from her many and varied experiences outdoors including walks with her dog, creating beauty in her garden, time spent with horses, and trips to the zoo and safaris.  Experimenting and pushing the boundaries of the essence of watercolor are crucial to her creative efforts.  Acknowledging that a watercolor painting is a “controlled happening,” her artistic process creates works that embody the visceral qualities of the paint, while skillfully incorporating delicately rendered details.

Katherine earned a BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University where she majored in printmaking.  She also has a MAT in Art from Manhattanville College.  She has recently retired from teaching art for 18 years at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York, where she taught four levels of drawing, including Advanced Placement Drawing, four levels of jewelry making, and photography.  She is an avid jeweler, gardener, horseback rider, member of the Choral Society of the Hamptons, and is the mother of four and grandmother of three.

She is a member of The Southampton Artists Association, the Water Mill Museum, and the Artists Alliance of East Hampton.
